Week #6 (Is Digital Media Bad For Us?)

To answer this question one must really think long and hard about the advantages and disadvantages of digital media. In my post for Week #4 I stated that I believe we as a society have become lazy as a community due to digital media. Digital media can also draw us away from the "right" ways of doing things. For example, Instead of reading for an assignment and truly trying to grasp the concept from a critical perspective there are websites such as Spraknotes.com where it's there all in one content, summarizing each chapter from the plot to the theme, lessening the work load of students and making it very easy for one to be lazy and cheat around true education and true understanding. The things that are shown through digital media can influence the younger generation in many ways. Fights broadcasted over the web for entertainment can change the mindset of a child if seen at the appropriate time along with other things that news stations show on a daily basis adds to the vulnerability of our younger generation. In my opinion digital media can be detrimental to our society as a whole. I believe there's a bit too much freedom when it comes to the digital age now. We're aloud to post anything we'd like on any source of digital media that we choose from television to the web.

Week #4 (digital media definitions, issues, and more about artists and genres)

In this age of digital media creativity, influence, ownership and art within the digital age is something that is necessary. One must be creative in every aspect. We have developed new ways of having conversations with others from all around the globe via webcam and applications such as Skype and Oovoo. We've developed new ways of conversing via I.M. and social networks such as Myspace, Facebook, and Twitter. All of these aspects of new age media can have a huge impact on those around us. We now as a culture stray from that of our tradition and into that of the "new age". Rather than speaking, people would much rather text message one another and rather than taking pictures for sentimental reasoning and having a "kodac moment" people upload pictures via Facebook to be hopefully tagged in. It's quite sad what our generation has come to and how much of an impact digital media affects us and those around us. We rely mostly on machinery and electronic standards rather than the traditional way of doing things ourselves. We've even become so lazy to the point where we no longer have the patience to press a simple button which is why the invention of the iPhone, iPad and other touch screen comrades have come into play. We as artist can use all of these sources to our advantage and help further our prosperity as a whole. Using networks such as Youtube to broadcast our works and talents can be very beneficial and can also be a great for us.

Framing: My Thoughts & Opinion...

After reading about framing and what impact it can have on the view of others I strongly disagree with the idea of it. Although the examples in the text are broad  and completely rational I still don't agree with the terms of framing nor do I understand it completely. Framing in my opinion is a thought process but also changes peoples thoughts as well, not just the way they think. I believe categorizing things into perspective is somewhat necessary because if we as a society don't have a thought process or category of anything then we lose a sense of who we are as individuals.
